California Holiday Three

June 8, 2025 By Janey Leave a Comment

Monday 19th May Rich and KJ took off climbing while Pete and I walked in Central Park. It is very difficult to get my steps in when everywhere here is so far apart . No ‘walking a round the corner’ or ‘just down the road‘ here. Life centres around vehicles , generally large ones and the freeways never stop. Where are the cars going? And where have they been?

Tuesday 20th May Today Ariel had arranged for us to have a ‘Silk scarf marbling session’ at the Mayu Silk Scarf Marbling Centre. We walked into a venue draped with scarves of every pattern and every hue. After a demonstration we selected our colours and set to, dripping colours carefully onto the medium in the tray then combing colours out to create patterns. It was very satisfying and such fun! Rich took off to drive KJ to LAX while the rest of us went out for supper.
Wednesday 21st May Just my two sons left now. After driving north past LAX we arrived at my brother Tom’s and Brier’s home. First we wandered out into their back yard to find the tortoise before Tom gave us a guided tour of Loyola Marymount University. The engineering laboratories were fascinating, machines designed to test the strength of differing materials; a wave machine and a wind tunnel to name but a few.

Thursday 22nd May Pete, Richard and I visited my brother Mike’s and chit-chatted with him and his wife, Fran. So much catching up to do. So little time.
Friday 23rd May was packing up and swim day. Said ‘goodbye’ to Pete then walked on the beach and met a kind man who helped me walk on soft sand after walking down the ‘handicapped pathway’ Timed my walk perfectly to meet Richard back at the staring point after his swim. Returning to the Air B ‘n B we discovered that it had locked us out! Thank goodness there was a key in a ‘lock box’ that Rich could access after calling the owner.
I had a brilliant week. Family is SO important and I appreciate and cherish every moment spent with them.
