California Holiday Six

June 30, 2025 By Janey Leave a Comment

Saturday 7th June This was my last weekend! Today we went down to the Sugar Shack in Huntington Beach for breakfast. Traffic to the beach front was heavy and there was clearly something going on because there were long queues for every single Sea Front car park and pedestrians making their way on foot, laden with surf boards, wind breaks and all the paraphernalia required for a day on the beach. Luckily for us the restaurant still had tables available. What did I have? pancakes – of course! This is America.
Sunday 8th June Today Ann hosted a lunch for us to meet her grandson, Holden and his mother, Stacey, before they returned to Arizona. It was also a chance to see Tom and Brier once again.
Monday 9th June Ann drove the two of us down to a restaurant called Miguels for lunch with her friend Pat. Then we spent the afternoon chatting back at her home while I showed her the ‘domino knitting’ technique that I use for making baby blankets.
Tuesday 10th June Today Ann and I spent pottering, including a walk in the park and a visit to the supermarket. The store was a mass of shelves packed from floor to ceiling with food of every description. The variety was overwhelming. With such an extensive choice available, why do vegetables seem to be missing from so many restaurant menus? And of course we popped into Michael’s again. I never tire of wandering around craft stores!
Wednesday 11th June Packing to return home should be easier and quicker than packing for the trip. After all, with no decisions about what to pack, all I had to do was to fit everything back into my suitcase. Then why did it take me so long?
Mike drove me to LAX, dropping Fran and me off at the terminal while he parked. Checking in went smoothly then there was a long – too long- wait for a wheelchair to appear. After another wait at the gate, I must’ve been one of the first passengers on the ‘plane, which made walking to my seat so much easier. And,of course, at the end of a smooth flight I was one of the last passengers off the plane. It had a been lovely being away, seeing my Family and holidaying yet at the same time it was good to be back.
